Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge

King Billy Suite at Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge
The King Billy Suite at Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge just screams luxury!
  • Location: Stone’s throw away from the national park
  • Best for: Couples willing to splurge on luxury Cradle Mountain accommodation
  • Highlights: The King Billy Suite

Location, Location, Location! Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge is nestled on the edge of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park World Heritage Area and the location is hard to beat.

It’s the starting point of several famous walking trails in Cradle Mountain including the Enchanted Walk and King Billy Trail. While this does attract day visitors in their numbers, the cabins are hidden amongst the trees, giving guests the privacy they’re looking for.

Of all the cabins available, The King Billy Suite is next level! I’m talking outdoor hot tubs overlooking the trees and crackling wood fires for cosy nights in. This spacious and private suite is their signature room type and is hard to beat if you’re looking for luxury accommodation in Cradle Mountain.

But there’s more! Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge is also home to Waldheim Alpine Spa, a gorgeous spa set amongst the forests, which offers a range of treatments and therapies and includes a steam room, sauna, hot tub and plunge pool.

While you’re there, pop into the onsite tavern bar and bistro but if you prefer fine dining, make a booking at The Highland restaurant which follows a paddock to plate philosophy.

Things to consider

Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge is not cheap! But, if you’re looking for luxurious accommodation in Cradle Mountain, with all the bells and whistles, it ticks all the boxes. If you decide not to stay here, make sure you pop into the tavern for a drink at some stage during your visit.

Wombat Cabin

The secluded and rustic Wombat Cabin.
  • Location: 15 minutes from the Cradle Mountain Visitors Centre
  • Best for: Couples who want privacy
  • Highlight: The cosy fire on a cold winter night

Looking for a place jam-packed with character? This is it! While Wombat Cabin may not be the most luxurious accommodation in Cradle Mountain, it certainly is the most charming!

Nestled in a woodland setting, only 15 minutes from the entrance of Cradle Mountain National Park, you aren’t going to find a place that’s more remote and private than this.

What sets Wombat Cabin apart is that there is only one guest cabin on the property, so you can enjoy the peaceful environment without any disturbances. You’re constantly surrounded by wildlife, with the resident wallabies coming out in droves at dawn, right on your doorstep.

And the cabin itself is gorgeous. The wooden structure, with its rustic, authentic design, is extremely comfortable and boasts a fully equipped kitchen. And the cherry on top? You can enjoy a wood fireplace and cosy up while watching old-school movies (there’s a great collection to choose from).

I spent two nights here and it’s possibly the best place I’ve ever stayed at.

Things to consider

Wombat Cabin is luxury in my eyes. It may not have a hot tub, or acclaimed restaurants and day spas, but if you’re in search of character and peacefulness, you’re not going to find anything better, especially at this price point.

Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village

Stay on natures door step at Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village.
  • Location: 5-minute drive to the Visitors Centre
  • Best for: Couples and Cradle Mountain family accommodation
  • Highlights: It’s luxurious yet affordable

Quiet, peaceful and immersed in nature – if you’re travelling in a group or with family, take a look at Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village.

Set in a temperate rainforest on the edge of the national park, the retreat offers an onsite restaurant and gorgeous lounge complete with a fireplace.

Step into the chalets and you’ll be equally impressed. The Luxury Cottage with a spa bath gets my vote as the best option. This secluded cabin is for adults only and boasts a massive hot tub overlooking the forest.

For families, there are also self-contained chalets available with plenty of space and large balconies.

While all the cottages at Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village come with a kitchen, there’s also the option of enjoying a meal at Hellyer’s Restaurant which is on the property. Happy hour is from 4:30-5:30 so don’t miss it.

Things to consider

Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village can’t be faulted. From the friendly staff to the prime location, comfortable rooms and more, it’s a great place to stay in Cradle Mountain.

Cradle Mountain Highlanders

Crackling fireplaces at Cradle Mountain Highlanders for those cold winter nights.
  • Location: 5 Minute drive from the park entrance
  • Best for: Couples and families who want a secluded escape
  • Highlight: The wilderness environment

If you’re looking for an authentic, romantic and rustic place to stay, then Cradle Mountain Highlanders will be right up your alley. It’s luxurious in its own right and while it doesn’t come with the fine furnishings you may find elsewhere, it’s one of the best options for a romantic getaway.

Of all the accommodation in Cradle Mountain with fireplaces, Cradle Mountain Highlanders have the biggest selection to choose from. There are 16 wooden cabins, all completely separate and hidden amongst the trees. Each comes complete with a living area and a fully equipped kitchen.

The Luxury Spa Cabin is gorgeous! With its open plan living and a cosy indoor fireplace, it’s perfect for a cold winter escape.

But if you’re travelling with your children, there are also family cabins which sleep up to 6 guests comfortably.

The reviews of Cradle Mountain Highlanders are impressive and speak volumes to the value for money and authentic experience you’ll have here. It’s also located close to the Visitors Centre so you’re a stone’s throw away from all the main Cradle Mountain attractions.

Things to consider

The style and appliances may be a tad outdated, but the isolated cabins and forest views make up for it!

Cradle Mountain Hotel

Cradle Mountain Hotel
A snow covered Cradle Mountain Hotel – beauty at its best!
  • Location: 5-minute drive to the Cradle Mountain Visitors Centre
  • Best for: Couples
  • Highlights: The Altitude Bar and Lounge

Cradle Mountain Hotel is nestled within a stunning alpine woodland, just north of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. The peaceful and remote atmosphere is ideal for a romantic getaway away from the crowds that flock to the park.

Foodie travellers will love the onsite Altitude Restaurant which features an award-winning menu showcasing the finest flavours of Tasmania. For a more casual atmosphere, the Altitude bar and lounge area is the perfect setting to rest and relax in front of the cosy fire.

With 60 rooms available, guests can choose from comfortable standard rooms, Deluxe Spa Rooms or spacious King Rooms. The only downside is that they are very close to each other and the soundproofing of the rooms isn’t great – so if you prefer more privacy, you may want to consider other Cradle Mountain accommodation.

Things to consider

When compared to Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge, Cradle Mountain Hotel may not be as luxurious but is a fraction of the price. If you’re looking for an affordable place to stay close to the park, this is a great choice.

Finding Cradle Mountain Luxury Accommodation

Your options for luxury accommodation in Cradle Mountain are limited, but these few properties sure offer an experience that’s hard to beat. And if you’re lucky enough to visit during a cold spell, you could be treated to snow-covered cabins in the woods.

The King Billy Suite at Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge tops the list of luxury Cradle Mountain accommodation but, my personal favourite is Wombat Cabin thanks to its secluded and unique atmosphere.
